It isn’t surprising that my first post about my marine voyages is about food. I love to eat and in particular, I love seafood. In Māori, we say kaimoana but it all means the same thing – seafood, fruit of the sea – and those of us with an affinity for the water, equally have a love affair for the bounty that the moana (ocean) provides.
Yesterday I was lucky enough to visit the Wright Brothers in Soho for a birthday catch-up with my closest friends. It was a fairly easy decision on where we would celebrate because as eight Māori women, we have a cultural history that is closely linked to water and the food our moana provides.
At a pound a pop at the Wright Brothers we were not disappointed and devoured these Jersey gems. We left well satiated after also sampling soft shell crab, catch of the day, oyster ceviche and some lovely wine.
It was a great Sunday afternoon sampling delicious kaimoana, enjoying good friends and feeling further connected back home.
